New Orchid Discovered in Yosemite

A new orchid that grows only in Yosemite has been discovered. The Yosemite Bog Orchid (Platanthera yosemitensis) is only known to grow in nine sites throughout the park. As the orchid's range is understood currently, it is the only orchid species endemic to the Sierra Nevada of California.

Photoshop Basics: Hue/Saturation - WCI Pixel Podcast

Have you ever taken a picture of a colorful scene only to be disappointed by the result? The problem could be saturation. Saturation is what makes colors more rich and vibrant, and prints often lack the richness of the original scene. They just need a little help to look like they should.

Fortunately Photoshop's Hue/Saturation tool lets you add saturation in a very controlled way. Use this tool to give a little pop to your overall image, and really make it come to life. But the fun doesn't stop there with this handy tool. You can also choose a specific color to give a little more or a little less saturation to your red apples, your blue skies or your green grasses.

Learn how to apply these powerful corrections by viewing Photoshop Basics: Hue/Saturation.

Jeff Grandy Exhibit and Opening

The latest exhibition of WCI Scan Master Jeff Grandy is now on display at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park. The artist’s reception is Friday, July 13 from 4 to 6 PM and is open to the public.

Grandy’s exhibit showcases many of his favorite places in the High Sierra, Yosemite, the Eastern Sierra, and the foothills region of the Central Sierra discovered in his twenty years living in the region. Each image is captured with his sensitive eye and love of detail.

Grandy works with medium format cameras and produces his own prints through an elaborate and precise digital imaging process that gives him complete control of the expressive and emotive qualities of each print.

Family owned and operated, the Ansel Adams Gallery has operated in Yosemite National Park since 1902 and exhibits the finest in American landscape photography including original prints by Ansel Adams.
